The Science Behind Ageless — Including Where It Ends

Bioavailability, collagen cofactors, oxidative stress and cellular energy, explained without overselling. We label what is well studied, what is emerging, and what is simply nutritional support.

Bioavailability: the only argument that matters

A nutrient does nothing until it reaches the tissue that needs it. Swallowed, it has to survive gastric acid, be actively transported across the intestinal wall, and pass through hepatic first-pass metabolism. For vitamin C and several B vitamins those intestinal transporters are saturable: past a certain oral dose, additional intake largely increases urinary excretion rather than plasma concentration.

An intravenous infusion removes those two bottlenecks entirely. Plasma concentration becomes a function of dose and infusion rate rather than of gut health. That is the mechanical case for IV nutrient therapy, and it is genuinely different from a tablet. It is also the limit of the claim: better delivery is not the same as a proven clinical outcome for every endpoint people hope for.

Collagen needs cofactors, not just protein

Collagen synthesis is an enzymatic process. Prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase — the enzymes that stabilise the collagen triple helix — require ascorbic acid as a cofactor. Without sufficient vitamin C, the amino acid raw material glycine, proline and lysine cannot be assembled into stable, functional collagen. Supplying both the substrate and the cofactor together is the reasoning behind including an amino acid blend alongside high-dose vitamin C in Ageless.

What that reasoning does not promise is a measurable change in dermal collagen density after one infusion. Skin remodels across weeks. Sustained cofactor availability across successive renewal cycles is the mechanism worth pursuing, which is why a course is recommended over a single visit.

Oxidative stress and glutathione

UV exposure, particulate air pollution, disturbed sleep and alcohol all raise the oxidative load on skin. Glutathione is the body's principal intracellular antioxidant and a substrate for the enzymes that neutralise reactive oxygen species. It is also involved in the pathways that regulate melanin production, which is the basis of its widespread use in skin-brightening protocols. Evidence for glutathione's antioxidant role is strong; evidence for the size and durability of its skin-tone effect is more mixed, and honest reporting matters more here than enthusiasm.

NAD+ and cellular energy

NAD+ is a coenzyme required for mitochondrial ATP production and for the sirtuin and PARP enzyme families involved in DNA repair. Tissue NAD+ declines with age, and restoring availability is one of the more active areas of longevity research. We classify NAD+ as emerging research rather than established therapy: the mechanism is well characterised, the human outcome data for anti-aging endpoints is still developing, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling.
